Before adding a new domain you must first, obviously, own the domain. You do not need to purchase your domain through flipping-hosting (but of course we would like you to and it would then mean that all your domain management tools can be accessed from one place) but you do need to point your domain at our nameservers. If you have purchased your domain name through (or transfered it to) flipping-hosting, then this will have been done for you. If not, and you are not sure how to point to a nameserver, just drop us a support ticket and we will help you out.

Next, you need to setup your domain hosting. Simply log in to your hosting cPanel account (which can also be accessed easily from your client account area) and scroll down to the ‘domains’ section where you will see 4 icons -

1. Subdomains. A subdomain is a special section of your domain that allows you to make a distinction between different areas of your website and you may create as many subdomanis as you desire without any additional cost. A subdomain is usually identified as the first section of your url eg http://clients.allynne.com means that allynne.com is the domain and ‘clients’ has been set up as a subdomain.
2. Addon Domains. This is the option you are looking for to add additional domain hosting to your current account. It allows you to have your initial hosting account created for http://yourdomain.com but also host http://yourotherdomain.com with an entirely different website.
3. Parked Domains. These are a special kind of Addon domain that allows you to host additional domain names but instead of them having seperate websites, they will use the same website as your initial domain. This is usefull if you have purchased yourdomain.com and yourdomain.net but only wish to have a single website.
4. Redirects. A redirect does exactley what you think it should. It redirects one domain name to another

Option 2 is the one we are after and after clicking that icon you will be asked for the domain name you wish to ‘add on’. Enter your new domain name and press ‘Tab’ on your keyboard to go to the next field in the form. You should notice that these next two fields are filled in automatically for you with suggested enteries. You are not required to use these suggestions, but I would recommend stick with them as they are usually the best.

Next you will need to enter a password for the default ftp account that is created in conjunction with your addon domain. Although you must create this password, you do not need to use it as you will be able to access your addon domains files via your main ftp account.

The final step is simply to ‘push the Button’ (yes, I am an F1 fan ) and your addon domain will be setup and ready for next flipping-brillient website.

These accounts (although not neccessarily used) are expected by a number of processes and when they are not available can actually be detremental. However, having a lot of email accounts can become a nightmare to administer and so there is a better option when setting them up. Instead of creating seperate mailboxes, ‘forward’ these address to your ‘admin@’ account via the cPanel ‘Forwarders’ option. This will send all mail addressed to these emails in to a single mailbox.

Forwarding can also be used on an overall domain basis and is most commonly used when you secure multiple domain names such as youdomain.com, .net, and .biz. Through the cPanel ‘Forwarders’ option you can redirect all your .net and .biz emails to the appropriate .com mailbox in just the same way as you can redirect .net and .biz traffic to your .com site.

^2. Abuse@ is “required” by RFC 2142 as a defacto standard (ie, everyone else is doing it and so should you).
